The weather has cleared up and now after being couped up in the house for what seems like forever, my girls and I were extremely excited to finally be able to get out of the house!! As we walked around the neighborhood my girls couldn’t help but notice all the children in the neighborhood on their bikes. My oldest has just gotten her first bike with training wheels, and my younger is noticing more than ever how much she really wants a bike of her own. She has a tricycle, but for some reason neither of my girls could get the hang of peddling and steering at the same time- don’t really know why but it just took so much longer for them to get that!! I had heard in passing people talking of balance bikes, but I never really gave them much thought until my girls had such a hard time with peddling. I was really looking forward to this review- the YBIKE!!
A sturdy little balance bike that will help your little one develop balance, control, independence, self-confidence, and so much more!! Most kids can’t really start riding a bike until around 4, but with the YBIKE kids as yound a 2- like my youngest will be riding around with the big kids!! I was really impressed at how super easy the YBIKE was to put together. I think it took me a total of 15 minutes… tops to assemble the entire bike. I don’t think I have ever seen a bike so sturdy- I really felt confortable just letting my 2 year old go, confident that it would keep her up. The wheels are extra wide to help keep the bike up and safer for uneven surface and the rear has two wheels to give a little added help balancing while at the same time allowing your little one to be able to lean during turns so they won’t tip over like most tricycles do. But we tried it out inside just to be on the safe side
She immediately took off- riding around the house on her new big girl bike!! I’m Not sure who loves the bike more, my daughter, or my husband. He just thinks this is the coolest bike ever! The feature that I personally love the most is that kids who tested the YBIKE for 20-30 minutes twice a week showed substantial improvements in static and dynamic balance, bilateral coordination, and were observed to have an improvement in physical self confidence! (testing by Prof ES Bressan, Dept of Sport Science, Stellenbosch University) Now what child doesn’t need that! The YBIKE is recommended for most kids over 2 and who weigh less than 50kg. But, older kids would totally love to play around on a super cool bike like the YBIKE!! Even though the YBIKE is fairly new they are already starting to make a buzz in the awards realm- here are a few awards and recognitions they have achieved:
Oppenheim Gold Seal Toy of the Year Award 2010. The Oppenheim Award is probably the most prestigious toy award that can be won in the USA. Products are tested extensively with children before awarding. YBike won the Gold Seal award which is an award given to outstanding new products that enhance the lives of children.
The SABS Design Excellence Award recognizes not only the visual aspects but takes into consideration the Ergonomic design, Engineering, material choices and thoughts behind the Motor Skill development claims.
Some other great features:
High ground clearance and shape of lower body allows for safer riding over big obstacles
Bigger angle on front fork allows the wheel to be further forward from the kids centre of gravity, allowing for a safer turn
Internal fork locking mechanism reduces the tightness of a turn, also allowing for safer turning
Covered rear wheels stop little feet from being driven over.
Not to mention all the cool colors the YBIKE comes in- Orange, pink, green, and blue! Go check out YBIKE HERE and see all of the really cool and unique balance bikes, ride-ons, and scooters they have!! And while your there, take a peek at the super cool TRIBE that is coming soon- looks like one tough trike!!
