Tie Buddies- Review!

The squirrel runs around the tree…give the little bunny it’s ears…loop it, swoop it, and pull. That sounds confusing to me, imagine how a 4 year old feels when your trying to teach them how to tie their shoes. With school rapidly approaching, the rush is on to either buy your kid velcro shoes or teach them how to tie their own. Tie Buddies will help your little one learn to tie their shoes faster and easier! Invented by a mom of 2, Wendy, after feeling there must be an easier way to teach her kids to tie their shoes. Thus, tie buddies was created. Adorable graphics paired with interesting stories eliminate all of the frustration with squirrels and bunnies and swoops! Your kids, even as young as 3 can learn to independently tie their own shoes and feel the accomplishment that comes along with it, thanks to Tie Buddies!

We received a pair of tie buddies for our little girl. Tie Buddies come in 2 different designs, 1 for girls- fairies of course, and 1 for boys- cars! Fairies and wands, cars racing each other to the pit- they definitely make it fun to learn! Here’s how it works! From Tie Buddies Site:

STEP 1: (FOR PARENTS)

Begin with the widest part of the Tie Buddy at the top, holes facing up. Thread the lace up through the closest tunnel, then out the top and down through the second, outer tunnel. Do not leave a loop above the Tie Buddy. Make sure there is roughly 3.5” of lace between the Tie Buddy and the last shoe eyelet. The 3.5″ should be measured with your childs’ foot in the shoe with the laces untied. Measure from the eyelet to the base of the Tie Buddy. You may need to adjust according to your childs’ shoes and lace length so try the tying process yourself first to be sure the Tie Buddies® are placed correctly. Repeat the process on the second lace.

* Important: Tie BuddiesTM are meant to fit almost all laces however there may be some exceptions. If the tip of your childs’ lace is worn or frayed you may want to replace the laces. You should also note that it may take some “elbow grease” to get the tip through on the larger ended laces.

STEP 2

Holding the TIPS of the laces, make an “X” and wrap one end through the hole and pull tight.

STEP 3

Grasp just below your Tie Buddies

STEP 4

Pass the left Tie Buddy (character) behind the other’s back

STEP 5

…and back around in front

STEP 6

Now finish by pushing that Tie Buddy (character) back
through the hole

STEP 7

Now grab both the Tie Buddies
(characters) and pull up and away until your bow is tight

STEP 8

You’ve done it!
You can tie your shoes!

STEP 9

Once they’ve gotten the hang of it, remove one Tie Buddy so they can practice holding a lace on their own. Soon enough, you’ll remove the other and your child will be a shoe-tying whiz!

Once s/he’s got the shoe-tying down, Tie Buddies can assist your kid in tying a more secure knot. After you’ve removed both Tie Buddies, have your child add the following step to their knot-tying: after they tuck the first lace through the “hole”, have them tuck the other lace through the “hole” from the opposite side. Pull both tight, and your child will be tying a better knot than you!
Go get your kids theirs and start learning today!!! Check out Tie Buddies HERE.
