The Greatest Show on Earth!!

I can truly say that this was The Greatest Show on Earth!!  I didn’t think last year could be topped, but they did!! It had everything you could ask for – Comedy, Suspense, Great Songs, Gorgeous Animals, everything you would expect from Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus.  From the time Ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson stepped in that ring until the Dragon emerged at the end, it was non stop action!

Johnathan Lee Iverson and Paulo dos Santos

You could definitely tell he has a past in Broadway, he was dynamic and theatrical, he added a bit more rythym to the show than I have seen in the past. Usually it seems that opening night can be a bit sparse, especially when it is on a weekday, so the crowd can be kind of quiet. Not this year, everyone was out of their seats dancing and screaming at the amazing acts!!  My oldest daughter ( my super girlygirl) was so intrigued by the Shaolin Warriors.

Shaolin Warriors!!

I was shocked, I would have thought that she would prefer the pretty acrobats or dancers, but she could not stop talking about them!!  Not only did that display some pretty impressive martial arts movements, but they broke metal bars and cedar poles on their heads and bodies!!  I was kind of scared, but my girls were loving it!!

Teeter Board Group

Another group that they talked about a lot after the show was the Troupe Scala- a Russian Bar and Teeter board group.

Look how high up he is!!!

They flipped and flew all through the air, with a bit of comedy and  so much fun!!

My favorite act was the Torres family and their globes of steel-  8 motorcycles driving at 65 miles per hour in a 16 foot steel cage!   One small mistake could have proved tragic, but they were flawless, zooming around each other in perfect unison!! I was on the edge of my seat!!

Globe of Steel!!

Amazing!!

The elephants were beautiful and healthy looking, as were the other animals in the show.

Awww!!!

I always look forward to the big cats of the Circus, and this year was no exception.

Alexander Lacey and his family have raised more than 11 generations of lions and 9 of tigers.  His love for his cats is evident as is his trust for them!!

Several times, he was seen allowing this enormous lion kiss him in his face, all I could think was please don’t let my kids see his face get bitten off!!!  But this gentle giant simply gave him a kiss!!! Amazing!! They were absolutely gorgeous!!   There were several acts that were just as dangerous but just seemed less so because of their gratefulness and  charm.  The  Sizzling Sirens of the Sky and the Hair Hanging Wonders.

Sizzling Sirens of the Sky

The Sirens of the Sky were floating above in what appeared to be bubbles, performing aerial poses and maneuvers.  The Hair Hanging Wonders – an acrobatic act that ….you guessed it, hangs by their hair!! Ouch!!   The show ended with the Dragon emerging from its golden lair, breathing fire around the ring.  It was truly an amazing show, my girls wanted to go see it again!!

The Dragon!!!

They will be in Sacramento through the weekend, don’t miss this show!!!   Be sure to arrive early, the animal open house and all access pre show are amazing!!! Get up and close with the animals and acts, let the kids dance and do a little kung fu with the Shaolin warriors, and see the beautiful Asian elephant paint a picture that is given to one person in the audience!!
