Naturepedic No Compromise Organic Ultra Crib Mattress Review

I know I have said this alot in my reviews, but it is absolutely true. Since the birth of my girls, I have wanted to go in the more organic direction. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t do everything organically, but for the really important things I think buying organic is best. One area that I had never thought of was crib mattresses. But when you think about it, they little bodies are against that surface for many hours a day, every day. And because babies are so small, their tiny little bodies are absorbing all those nasty chemicals all throughout the day. We tend to cover the mattresses with plastic or vinyl to keep them from getting wet from accidents, but is that really any safer? Well, thankfully Naturepedic has a solution for all those parents out there that are looking for a safe alternative to the traditional mattress. The “No Compromise” Organic Crib Mattress. They specialize exclusively in the design and manufacturing of infant and children’s mattresses that promote natural and organic materials, a non-toxic design, fire safety, and baby health- what more can you ask of a mattress company?  For our review, we received the No Compromise Organic Cotton Ultra Crib Mattress.  I was really excited because I have been trying to get my youngest to at least nap in her own bed.  But the mattress she has is definitely one I am not thrilled with to say the least.  It’s firm enough, but it’s covered in vinyl and definitely not organic!  I’m actually kind of glad she won’t sleep in it!  The day we received our No Compromise Ultra Crib Mattress I opened it eagerly, like a little child would open a gift.  Impressive- it most definitely looked like an heirloom quality piece for sure!   The organic cotton cover was extremly soft, I almost can’t believe that it’s waterproof.  Instead of using vinyl to waterproof, Naturepedic uses a food grade polyethylene coating, an environmentally friendly and safer alternative to vinyl/pvc.  The mattress itself was very firm, not uncomfortably so, but firm. It has a heavy-duty orthopedic innerspring and firm flat surface to provide the best support for your little one. The CPSC recommends that infant sleep on a firm flat surface, so this is definitely a plus in that department.

Naturepedics mattresses are also equip with an all natural approach to fire retardants as well. First of all, organic and natural cotton fibers are less flammable- which was reassuring to me. But they take it a step further, using unique fire retardant properties of natural and non- toxic substances like baking soda- I have some in my refrigerator, Silica- a natural mineral, which you can purchase as a food supplement and cellulose fiber- derived primarily from eucalyptus and poplar trees and has a low carbon footprint. These materials provide the best way to meet fire regulations without the use of dangerous chemicals or allergenic wool.

My daughter slept in her big girl bed for the first time thanks to the No Compromise Organic Cotton Ultra Crib Mattress. She actually slept really well, considering she had never slept in it before. My baby is growing up. I think this is a great mattress to consider when thinking of buying a crib mattress. The investment is well worth the return when you think of the alternative. After all, it’s your baby- they are most definitely worth it.
