Green Cooking with Xtrema Ceramic Cookware- Review and Giveaway!

by ajb30 on September 29, 2010

Post image for Green Cooking with Xtrema Ceramic Cookware- Review and Giveaway!

Ok so seriously, I must be the worst in the world for choosing cookware, because it seems like everything I choose turns out to be horrible! It either sticks when it is non stick, burns everything, or scares me to death at what chemicals are “leaching” out in our food. I just recently bought a “great” cookware set and after reading that at high temperatures the fumes from the pan can kill birds I was terrified! If it can kill birds what in the world are we doing eating off it! Well, I finally got it right! Xtrema Ceramic Cookware! I have been dying to try ceramic cookware for some time, but just never got around to it. I am so glad I waited until now- I think Xtrema is the best cookware around! Xtrema’s vision is to make their products the healthiest for us and the planet and to develop the safest and most versatile cookware versus metal and PTFE coated non-stick cookware. We are thrilled to be able to introduce you to the world of Xtrema!

We received a 10 inch skillet for our review. The first thing I noticed was how heavy it was- now to me this a definite plus. You can really tell how well it is made. It sort of reminded me of the cast iron skillets my mom and grandma cooked with growing up. I was super excited to try it out! I decided to try it out at breakfast with some pancakes- OK maybe I should have read the instructions- they stuck really bad! But that was totally my fault. I went out and bought some high heat spray for the skillet and decided to try again. I have been frying and sauteing ever since without any difficulties. What I love is the versatility of this wonderful pan- it can go from the freezer to the stove to the oven to the microwave to the dishwasher! I don’t think there is anything it can’t do. And clean up was a cinch. It says that you can use steel wool and comet if needed, but I did fine with dish soap and a dish cloth! Here are a few awesome facts about the Xtrema cookware:

Features and Benefits

Xtreme High Temperature: Cookware can withstand 2,700 F, Steel can melt at 2,200 F
Xtremely Easy to Clean: Non-Scratch, Non-Toxic Ceramic Glaze Surface
Xtremely Attractive: High Gloss Black Finish
Xtremely Versatile: Oven, Stovetop, Broiler, Freezer, Barbeque Grill, Microwave Oven, Dishwasher and Dining Room Table
Xtremely Healthy Cooking: No Trace Metals or Chemicals Leaching from the Cooking Surface
Xtremely Practical: Reduces Cooking Time and Uses Less Energy, Foods Stay Hotter Longer
Xtremely Tasty: Ceramic Far Infrared Cooking Enhances the Food Flavor and the Entire Cooking Experience
Xtremely Durable: Cooking Surface can not be Scratched, even by Metal Utensils and Industrial Steel Wool

And oh, did I mention to all you “germ conscious moms like myself”, Xtrema cookwares ceramic surface is bacteria resistant! So even highly acidic foods (such
as tomatoes) will not stain the cookware surface or be absorbed into other
foods, causing a carry over of tastes and odors from food particles trapped
on the surface of the cookware. The Xtrema Nano-GlazeTM provides additional
protection from the formation of bacteria on the cookware surface. How wonderful is that!! I have to admit, my foods have tasted better and since I really don’t need to coat my pan with tons of butter, it is a lot healthier. It takes a little while to get used to cooking with Xtrema, but once you do, you will LOVE it. Here is a little “how to” on using the cookware:
How to Cook with Xtrema

When cooking with Xtrema Saucepans and Skillets on your gas or electric coil stove please start by using a medium heat setting for just 1 to 2 minutes. It may take a little extra time for the Xtrema to get fully heated but once it reaches the proper temperature, reduce the heat to a lower setting because the Xtrema cookware will retain heat for a longer period of time.
When frying or scrambling eggs with the 10” Xtrema skillet on your gas or electric coil stove please use medium heat and let the skillet heat for about 1 minute before spraying the inside surface of the skillet with a light coating of “High Heat” or “All Natural” canola or olive oil. These oils work the best with the Xtrema ceramic skillets. Please make sure you use a low to medium low heat setting once the skillet has reached your desired temperature. It may take a little practice to become an expert!

My favorite feature is that their products are non-toxic. It’s nice to not have to worry about metals or chemicals getting into the food I’m cooking. I’ve used other cookware in the past where the coating actually came off onto my food. I would love to replace everything in my kitchen with Xtrema so that would never happen again.

I actually got an xtrema pan for my father in law last Christmas and what I like most about it (and why I got it for him) was that he could use it on an open flame or his grill (which he’s famous for). He makes these cheese potatos with it now and I would sell my soul for the recipe (which he guards like a hen!). I really wanna pan for myself…gonna have to win one because I’ve been hinting to my family for a year and still no Xtrema!

I most like that you can cook, serve and store foods in the same Xtrema cookware which will save energy. Also, the Xtrema ceramic material retains heat longer which will you’re your food warmer longer when brought to the table.

Xtremely Durable: Cooking Surface can not be Scratched, even by Metal Utensils and Industrial Steel Wool. This is what ruins all of our pans. My dad moved in with us and won’t use anything but a metal spatula when he cooks. Very aggravating but this would take care of that.

I love the durable non toxic coating. I still have some of those old skillets that have linings peeling off. Thanks.

I love that it’s so sturdy, and it’s impossible to burn it up on the stovetop!

I like most the non stick interior without the horrible non stick chemical coating – I really would about teflon leaching into my family’s food
