Well, next week my baby will turn 5 years old!! I can’t believe it, where did the time go?? It seems like just yesterday I was bringing her home and now she is such a big girl!! I have been telling her forever that when she turns 5 she can finally get into her big girl car seat, but now the time is here, but she is still so small. She only weighs like 37 pounds, she is quite tall, but I still don’t feel comfortable putting her into a belt positioning booster just yet. If I had it my way, she probably would still be rear facing, I know both are best for kids, but finding a seat that accommodates the height and weight factors can be difficult. Diono, formerly Sunshine Kids, has come out with a new, highly versatile car seat that has the highest rear facing limit and forward facing harnessed weight and height (57″) limits on a car seat that I have ever seen. The RadianRXT Convertible Car Seat- Booster Seat -weight limit for rear facing is 45 pounds, forward facing in a 5 point harness from 20-80 (that’s 40 pounds more than our current seat) and belt positioning booster until 120 pounds!! There are so many awesome features about this amazing car seat. I was super excited to be able to review one for all of you today! The first thing that I noticed was that it was quite sturdy, it felt like it weighed alot more than my convertible seat that I have now, which to me a big plus- to some maybe not so much, but I figure the heavier, the safer- the seat itself weighs 24 pounds, almost 10 pounds heavier than our current seat, but it is not nearly as bulky. The seat folds up quite compact and has a carry strap built in, so it’s super easy to travel with it as well.
The RadianRXT also has a SafeStop feature that is quite new to me, at first I didn’t use it until I re read the instructions and realized how important it is- my daughter is under 40 pounds, and the SafeStop system is an energy absorbing harness especially for forward facing children under 40 pounds! Needless to say, I installed it after reading that. It is built for strength and safety and it shows! The steel alloy frame, reinforced sidewalls, SuperLatch system, EPS foam surrounding the head and body are just a few of the many safety features built into this awesome car seat/booster seat. For comfort they have added memory foam and space for up to 4 cup holders, perfect for snacks, drinks, crayons, and other items to keep little hands busy on long trips. The next thing I noticed, that is probably my daughters favorite feature is that the RadianRXT sits lower on the seat so she can climb in all by herself. She feels like she is in a big girl seat and I can feel good that she is still in her 5 point harness!! This could very well be the only car seat you could ever need. It comes with infant support pillow and is good for infants from 5 pounds and up.

When I first started to install the seat, I figured I had installed enough car seats in my time to do it without reading the manual very thorough- I do not recommend doing this ever!! This seat has quite a few new things that I wasn’t familiar with so I had to redo a few things to get it installed correctly. Like the SafeStop for instance.
Also the top tether was slightly different than all of my other seats, instead of just one strap it is 2 attached and secured, then you pull it in a v shape and attach to your anchors. But had I read the manual it wouldn’t have been a problem : 0 There are several recline options to fit your car seat as well, ours didn’t need any adjusting at all and fit perfectly! What is great about the instruction manual- if you have a smart phone, you can scan the barcodes for instructional videos- perfect for people like me who actually need to see it done. The head rest adjusted very easily to fit my daughter and tightened up nicely, it was slightly harder to tighten than our seat now, but I’m not sure if that is because it is new or that’s just how it is. I know my daughter usually tightens herself and then I check to see if it is tight enough, but she isn’t able to tighten this one enough. There is also a little pouch near the harness adjuster for emergency information. The RadianRXT also has a removable base for rear facing children, since we forward face my daughter we removed it. I would love to rear face her, but her legs are so long I don’t even think it is possible now. But if you are extended rear facing your children, this is the perfect seat for you!!! The latch clips installed easily and seemed quite sturdy! Once I tightened the seat up, I couldn’t even budge it- it was so tight!! I hope I never have to try out the safety of this seat, but I feel good knowing my daughter is in a safe seat and can remain harnessed for a long time! She absolutely loves her Big Girl seat and so do I. The RadianRXT has been NCAP crash tested for safety and is FAA certified for aircraft use. Oh and did I mention, you can fit 3 seats in a row in some cars- how cool is that??
The seat is definitely more narrow than most seats, but I still feel like she is super protected, I really love this seat and I am sure you will as well!!
