Wow!  It doesn’t seem like it has been this long since I last reviewed a product!  I have been so busy with my new baby girl and two year old, the time has just flown by.  Well, since the birth of my daughter I have come to a new realization:  According to the website safe cosmetics:

“Babies across America are sitting in bubbles tainted with cancer-causing chemicals and other toxins linked to serious health effects. Many of the contaminated products are advertised as “gentle,” “pure” or “naturally refreshing.” What’s going on?”The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics hired an independent lab to test bubble bath, baby lotion and other products intended for babies and children – purchased in cities across the U.S. – for 1,4-dioxane and formaldehyde. Both chemicals are contaminants that do not appear on product labels, and both are carcinogenic; formaldehyde can also trigger rashes in those with sensitive skin.

The lab tested 48 kids’ products for 1, 4-dioxane and found it in 67 percent of the products. Of the 28 products tested for formaldehyde, 82 percent were positive. Seventeen products were contaminated with both 1,4-dioxane and formaldehyde. You can read the list of products tested in the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics report, “No More Toxic Tub.”

Completely horrified, I no longer could even bathe my newborn or toddler without feeling as if I was knowingly using products that could, in time, give them long term health problems.  No wonder the prevalence of eczema, allergies, and yes cancer is so high now.  My newborn has such sensitive skin, finding products that were safe and effective was a tedious process, but so far the products I have chosen, while pricey, are working.  It makes me so mad to think these well known companies are putting these additives in our children’s products unnecessarily.  I found that almost every product I have used and carefully slathered on my two year old, thinking I was doing good, is potentially dangerous to her.  Shame on you, J&J!  I threw every product I owned in the garbage.  And, with that said, I will no longer review any products that contain these contaminants in them.  Hopefully soon more companies will join the bandwagon of  companies who have chosen not to use carcinogens in our babies products and sign the compact for safe cosmetics, so we as parents will have one less thing to worry about.  I urge you to check out the safe cosmetics website and try to make the change to products that are safe for our most precious possessions, our children.HERE.
